2010

As you all know the police have an important role to play for our event, but we have just had notification from them that they are no longer able to manage the road traffic due to new regulations that have been enforced.

A recent letter from them emphasised the importance of their presence:

The Police Service generally has become concerned over events that affect the public highways, as few public roads are suitable for this activity, with danger likely to be caused to both participants and other road users.  In addition, the Police are not only concerned with the element of danger, but also inconvenience that will undoubtedly be caused to other persons using the road.

We cannot, of course, prohibit you from carrying out the proposed event in the form you have described, but I am bound to advise you that should any accident involving death or injury result from it, I will feel obliged to make it known what advice was given to you at the outset.

Pink Fizz has therefore decided that the safety of our walkers must come first and with great sadness we have had to cancel the walk.

Your deposits will be returned once we receive the cheques that have been ordered from our bank, and you are very welcome to keep the t-shirt.

We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you but would like to reassure anyone who has already collected monies that items are still being bought for the hospitals this year and if you would still like to donate any monies then you are most welcome to.

Thank you for your understanding and again we apologise for the disappointment.

Yours sincerely

Coffee Morning

The Mayor of Newport kindly donated a coffee morning to us which was held at the Bellevue Pavillion and was a great success. Thank you to everyone who turned out. The morning raised £161.

2009

Another fabulous day.....the weather holding off until the last 1/2 hour, but most walkers by then appreciated the heavens opening just to cool them down.

Rachel Rice, Winner of Big Brother 2008 dropped in to chat to participants, signing autographs and saying a few encouraging words before she cut the ribbon for the walk to begin. Thank you Rachel for giving up your time, it was much appreciated!

A great night had by all. Thank you to the DJ Mark who donated his services for the evening free of charge. Thankyou Mark!

Bigs thanks also go to Sian Cain-Culverwell of Savour the Occasion, who donated freely to Pink Fizz some beautiful flower table decorations which most certainly set off the evening. If you liked what Sian did and would like to contact her, her details are on her website, www.savourtheoccasion.co.uk

2008

The day was a huge success. With more than 150 walkers taking part and the weather holding off, this years walk went smoothingly well.

Andy Williams from X Factor popped in at the start of the day signing autographs and selling merchandise giving all profits back to Pink Fizz. Thankyou Andy for your kindness, you certainly made some children's year never mind day!

Pink Fizz would like to thank the Ahmadiya Muslim Community for all their hard efforts on the day, especially the marshaling which was commented on by many participants how professional and experienced they were. Thankyou guys.

Thankyou also goes to Gareth, Joanne, Ceri and Paul for all your help in organising the event on the day. Thanks also go to Mitch for all your help with the balloons, and Sonia & Malcolm for helping out with the marquee.

As soon as we receive the photos they will be uploaded to this site, so keep checking back.

On a final note, thankyou to all particpants. Early indications show that the amount of money raised this year is set to be more than £10,000. Well done!

Fun day

Year 10 of Fairwater High School held a fun day for Pink Fizz and managed to raise £434.09. Everyone had a brilliant day. Thanks boys!

What we do...

Pink Fizz is a voluntary committee dedicated to raising funds for cancer.  They are unique to other charities as they will not simply donate a cheque.  Instead the members chat to staff and patients to find out what equipment would help the patients whilst receiving treatment.  The list varied from shaving mirrors to 3 in 1 blood pressure monitors.  This equipment will be purchased by Pink Fizz and then donated directly to the relevant departments, to ensure they actually receive it.

Velindre hospital and the Royal Gwent Hospital are the treatment centres that will benefit from the funds raised this year.  If you know of a local treatment centre that could also benefit please let us know using our contact form.

Pink Fizz Charity Walk Newport 2007 Alix Popham
Picture above left to right Julia, Sarah, Pauline, Alix, Christine and Anita

A big thank you to Alix Popham who gave up his time to start the Pink Fizz walk 2007.  He was a gem, signing t-shirts for all!

Already out of funds raised Velindre Hospital has been donated two electric couches to aid patients who cannot reach onto a standard bed.  The electric couches rise up and down and are already gratefully used in the Outpatients Department.

Another item donated is a steel trolley which has several compartments to hold toiletries and goodies for all patients of Velindre.

Shortly the following will be donated from the monies you raised; chairs, televisions, shaving mirrors, fans, drip stands and secured trolleys, to name a few.

Check the image gallery for all the pictures taken on the day.
